Important to know: If you’ve been sexually assaulted, evidence can be fragile. Avoid bathing, showering, eating, drinking, changing clothes, using mouthwash, or brushing your teeth if possible.
But here’s what matters most: If you’ve already done any of these, don’t let it stop you from reaching out. We can still help you.
We see you. We believe you. And we are here to support you.
Please call us at 256-716-1000.
Sexual assault happens when someone either touches another person in a sexual manner without consent or makes another person touch them in a sexual manner without consent.
Sexual assault includes any unwanted sexual contact or behaviors that a person did not, or was not able to, consent to. This includes stalking and sexual harrasment.
We provide forensic exams, crisis counseling, emotional support, and medical advocacy at the time of the forensic exam. We also offer court advocacy.
Call 256-716-1000 to be connected to a Forensic Nurse Examiner. Our FNEs are available to provide examinations for victims of sexual assault. Examinations are conducted in a private, confidential examination room on a 24/7 basis. If a patient is admitted to a hospital the nurse will make arrangements to conduct the examination at that location.
An advocate will be there for you at the time of the forensic exam. Your advocate will explain the exam, and, with your consent, speak with any family member or friend accompanying you.
Your advocate will be with you during the exam for emotional support and after, will provide you with an information packet to answer any questions you may have about the legal process, medical issues, and your feelings after a sexual assault.
Afterward, our Sexual Assault Response Coordinator will be available to meet with you and/or your family or people close to you to discuss your concerns.
